The OCI Tool

Like a Swiss Army Knife for OCI

Welcome

As the first blog post, I wanted to share a bit about me.

I started my career as a PeopleSoft ERP developer and quickly moved into architecture. I found that I loved writing code, but I also love to put things together and understand how all of the moving parts of something work. This is true for me in technology, but also throughout my personal life.

After nearly 15 years focused on Oracle technology solutions for the on-premises world, I decided the to make that jump to cloud and I was fortunate to be involved with the Oracle Cloud Infrastructure crew from Seattle as OCI was being first rolled out. I like to joke that I started with OCI when it was a stack of servers in a closet somewhere in Seattle.

Since that time I’ve been focused on helping clients understand where OCI can fit into their broader technology ecosystem and how to leverage the capabilities of cloud beyond just infrastructure replacement. Sure, I’ve done a bunch of the good ol’ fashioned lift-and-shift work, but the real fun is when we can make life better for the users and IT staff by leveraging the cloud for all of its value.

So why OCI? First off, my Oracle background made it a no-brainer initially. As I’ve learned more about cloud in general, and how OCI is different, I truly believe that Oracle has something special. Whether it’s the unique architecture that makes vertical and horizontal scaling a reality or Oracle’s broad ecosystem of solutions, Oracle has something special.

In future blog posts, I’m excited to introduce some of the creative things I’m doing with my team around OCI capabilities related to custom dev, edge computing, high performance computing, AI/ML, and data at large. You’ll probably even catch me sprinkling in some random technology stuff that I have found to be rather interesting.
