Unboxing the Roving Edge Ultra

Just a few short days ago, we received our very first Roving Edge Ultra. This is pretty exciting because it hasn’t been that long since it became available for commercial customers. The standard Roving Edge has been available for quite some time to both government and commercial clients, but the Ultra received the Underwriter Labs (UL) certification recently which opened the door for commercial customers. Government clients, specifically defense and intelligence clients, have had access to the Ultra for a bit more time because they go through a separate certification process that wrapped up earlier.

I’m super excited to start using the Roving Edge Ultra for a couple of reasons. First, it’s crazy for me to think that I can now have a piece of the cloud that fits in my laptop bag. Second, the Ultra adds 2 USB ports that will allow us to use additional attached peripherals. With this functionality, the options seem endless. Personally, I’m very interested to start integrating things like IoT controls/devices and cameras. Third, the battery assembly is really intriguing because we can now take the cloud on the road. Finally, the Ultra only requires a 1Gbps ethernet connection, so with a combination of a portable router and 5G router, we can actually take the cloud to the extreme edge.

All of that is really exciting, but first things first. Let’s unbox the Ultra and have a look at what’s inside. I’m guessing many of you are as interested as I am to actually see this device, so I’ve put together a brief unboxing video for you to enjoy.

The long awaited unboxing of the Oracle Roving Edge Ultra

Now that we’ve got the Ultra out of the box you can expect to see more content coming soon related to use cases and what we actually do with the device to get the cloud to the edge.
